TLDR: So far, not so good. Willing to give it another chance? Yea why not.
yea naa aye... First of all i will clarify I did NOT buy this for the custom content. It's shit. Well, the Aussie stuff is ok. So many people view Trainz by the content alone rather than the versatility which is its strong point. I bought this essentially with a performance boost in mind - have i seen one so far? not really... Got a bit of gear coming to cram inside the PC that will give it some more room to move and really stretch its legs so I'm not going to write it off now. First tests with importing my own work haven't gone well so I figure i will hold off until the final release with hopefully a proper content manager to use by then.
TLDR: So far, not so good. Willing to give it another chance? Yea why not.

"I'm thinking you're a dumbass Kenny" Ever since I completed the mainline the push seems to be on to tidy up any loose ends in the layout before continuing on. One of these things is the yard throat and how half of it is directly off the mainline - It sat fine when I first developed the plan as it fit in with the back streets industrial terminal style I was after. But operation wise it's less than ideal with everything coming to a standstill when the yard is switched. Luuuuuckily I included a switch off the top of the ladder for possible industrial use which may have saved the day. The yard lead will join back onto the main just below. While this plan is "messier" than my usual styling I find it flows better as a whole, and allows more room for the engine terminal. The mainline curve as it currently is was always going to be moved forward for scenic reasons however that is out the window with this plan - leaves some questions as to how to scenic with the mainline so close to the edge (A window overhangs this part) but I do have some ideas.
So yea, Thoughts? I hate removing existing work unless I am 100% certain it is the right choice. Feel free to comment as any input would be appreciated - even if its "I love it" or "I hate it". The thoughts will continue for the time being. So I think there's been a bit of a gap in the layout updates... just a little one... Very slowly at that, but turning none the less. I've been jumping between projects like mad lately, both locomotive and wagon, so thought I would show you guys a few pieces and sum up why none of this stuff has been released. As you can see I like to group my wagons by underframe type, as once that is modeled it usually doesn't take too much effort to make a body to go on top. I'll start off with the furthest away from release and work my way closer. The new addition. whilst the ends are 99% finished I cannot say the same for the doors or underframe. I hate modeling brake gear - I really do. Ironic given my current position at work is overhauling brake components. Lpa's are frustrating also in their one-off style handbrake... oh well. The axle box and horns will come in handy with a lot of newer 4-wheel stock such as the Kp, Ks, Lb & Na - all essential NZR stock. The doors are half modeled however I have no depth dimensions which makes me weary to press on only to find a major mistake later. I guess I'm just being a pedantic prick. The partial deck i quickly pumped out today for something different to look at. Sadly it shows off very well this group of wagon's downfall - lack of brake gear (surprise surprise). That plus ARN and LOD will have the Uk's out on the road, but the Fe will require me to whip up a random log load similar to the one I made for the Usl. A mixed bunch this one! The Usl is by far my most complete wagon, with only LOD on the to-do list. I made a nice 4m pine load that switches between 6 different meshes and provides a pleasing consist once fully loaded. I must do the same for longer length logs some time... Next came the Us, with the bulkheads whipped up in a single night - they look quite good on close inspection - shame about the sides being so bare! I have modeled the chain ratchet however am still unsure how to model the worm to look effective without going overboard on the poly's. I imagine once that problem is sorted the rest will come rather quickly. I'll have to think up some neat loads. Last but not least is the Za - I made this a while ago however could not get the doors to my liking and it fell to the side for many months. Now I have modified and remapped them and I must say I am happy with the results. A few minor details, LOD and ARN will have these done and dusted.
I have locomotives too, mostly waiting on bogies. I hate bogies. I'll leave them secret for now - spilt enough with this post as is! watch this space. Hutt recently gained a new addition in the form of ZL82 - a wagon of little importance until mid 2013 when it made a trip to Ferrymead (full of Eo components) only to leave a different colour! A bit of railfan cheek mixed with some silver paint resulted in this peculiar wagon - Bit of a "If you want it back you have to ask first" jobbe ZL82 spent a fair few months at ferrymead, being painted up for the 150 celebrations in October 13'. Unfortunately the green stripe did not make it in time for the event but it still mixed in well with the other equipment on site - Early 2014 saw the wagon return to the national network, with all tie down hooks and handrails painted yellow to comply with modern standards. Spending most of its time in the South Island it then went on to spend a few months in the upper North Island before its one-and-a-half way journey to Hutt. It's future? Well... Not quite the end of the line though - So is born another interesting log wagon variant. Excuse the shitty back-lit photo... While the Za (or variants thereof) may live on to see another day, the same cannot be said for the North island CF fleet... And to cap this off, the interesting vehicles hooked to ZL82... And the interesting vehicles hooked to Tweety... Well, Fort Worth actually. Because the first post is from the middle of the trip for some reason. Yea so if you haven't guessed yet I recently found myself in a different hemisphere - all with a mere 1 month notice for planning & finance! It was a roller coaster ride that sadly came to an end. I could say being away for a month was a good reason for the lack of posts here, but we all know that would be a lie... Still got much more TX stuff to come, along with some CA and NY/PA to boot! I'll get a round tuit one day.
Yea, I had to. Bloody beut weekend in the south, with a highlight being a trip out to Middlemarch the unorthodox way: Yea, it was pretty mint.
